Workshop on sample size calculation for pharmacy research
PESUIMSR

Sample size calculation is crucial in pharmacy research to ensure valid results, ethical study design, efficient resource use, and compliance with regulatory and scientific standards. The sessions by Dr. Eshwar Kasturi, Dr. Arathy V, and Dr. Dimple Ann Dias, Senior Residents in the Department of Community Medicine elaborated on essential skills in accurately determining sample sizes for clinical and pharmaceutical research. The participants explored both theoretical and practical aspects of sample size calculation, covering studies involving means, proportions, and their applications in analytical research. Key concepts such as population, effect size, power, confidence level, and significance levels were thoroughly explained. Interactive tests and hands-on exercises on applying formulas to real-world scenarios provided practical insights. A live demonstration of Statulator, a statistical software tool, guided students on how to input data and obtain outputs. Dr. Sudeepa D, Professor and Head of the Department, delivered the welcome address and introduced the speakers at the workshop on sample size calculation for pharmacy research conducted by the Department of Community Medicine at PESUIMSR on April 22, 2025.
