Bengaluru, June 16, 2024 - In a landmark event held at the Taj West End, PES University (PESU), Bengaluru and Florida International University (FIU), Miami signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing academic cooperation, fostering innovation through cutting-edge research, and promoting cultural exchange.
The MoU exchange was attended by notable delegates from FIU including Dr. Kenneth G. Furton (Distinguished Professor, Provost Emeritus, Executive Director, Global Forensic and Justice Center, FIU Chief Scientific Officer), Mr. Kevin Lothridge (Deputy Executive Director Global Forensic and Justice Center, School of Integrated Science and Humanity), and Dr. S. S. Iyengar (Distinguished University Professor, Ryder Professor, Founding Director, Discovery Lab Director, US Army funded FINDS Digital Forensics Center of Excellence, Former Director, KFSCIS, FIU, and Distinguished Professor (Hon), PESU). PES University was represented by Prof. D. Jawahar (Pro-chancellor PES University and CEO, PES Group), Dr. J. Suryaprasad (Vice-Chancellor, PES University), Prof. Ajoy Kumar (COO, PES Group), Directors, Deans, Chairpersons, and other faculty members.
Both institutions recognize the immense potential to enhance research, innovation, workforce development, entrepreneurial initiatives, and global data sharing. The partnership will leverage the strengths of FIU in Forensic Sciences, investigative processes, and forensic evidence for justice, as well as the strengths of PESU in areas such as the use of AI/ML applied to Cyber Forensics, Blockchain technologies, Drone, OT & underwater Forensics, reinforcing both institutions' commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.
This MoU facilitates both Universities to establish close communication to explore the educational needs of their students in new and emerging technologies such as the ethical and responsible use of AI for societal good, Digital Forensics, and Cybersecurity to combat cybercrimes and ensure timely justice using digital evidence, supporting national initiatives such as Digital India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Prof. D. Jawahar added that PESU has always reached out for strategic partnerships with their Centres of Excellence. He emphasized that this collaboration with FIU will enhance the exposure of their stakeholders to cutting-edge research and innovation in the areas of Information Security and Cyber Forensics. He specifically congratulated Dr. S. S. Iyengar and Prof. Prasad B. Honnavalli for working tirelessly over the last six months to bring this event to fruition.
Expressing their enthusiasm for the collaboration, the FIU team highlighted its potential to drive impactful outcomes and mutual benefits. The signing ceremony provided an open platform for exchanging ideas and planning future collaborations, ensuring sustained progress and innovation in forensic sciences.
