Electronics & Communication PESU RR Campus

The event featured a line-up of industry leaders and senior academicians talking about the enormous opportunities for the students in the field of VLSI and how to leverage them. Welcome speech by Dr. Shikha Tripathi, chairperson, department of ECE,  and opening remarks by  Dr. Sudeendra Kumar, Associate professor and Head of VLSI set the tone for the informative sessions. Malini Narayanamoorthi, Country Head, Renesas, India in her insightful speech spoke on personal work-life balance, education, and career choices. She emphasized understanding of industry, adapting oneself, and finding joy in work. Stressing the importance of choosing the right career path wisely, she highlighted the abundance of resources available. Hitesh Garg, Country Manager, NXP Semiconductors highlighted two key aspects shaping the future of technology: the vital role of hardware security in ensuring system robustness and integrity and the profound impact of vehicle automation on safety and efficiency. He emphasized their commitment to advancing the  hardware security solutions and driving innovation in vehicle automation. Dr. Satya Gupta, President, VLSI Society of India in his inaugural address emphasized the enormous job opportunities that existed in digital design. While India possesses the latest technology, he highlighted that there is a gap in the product space, necessitating start-ups to focus on the sector. In the open house session, conducted by Chitra Hariharan, a serial entrepreneur and Secretary, VSI,  the speakers answered the queries posed by the audience. In his talk, Dr. Utsav Banerjee, IISc spoke about the modern computing revolution, tracing the evolution from early computing tools to today's advanced systems. His presentation covered topics such as design abstraction levels, design goals, scaling challenges, and domain-specific hardware architectures. He shared valuable information about the internship and higher studies opportunities at IISc and encouraged our students to apply. Dr. Viveka, Assistant Professor, IISc, specializing in ultra-low power VLSI circuits and in-memory computing provided a historical overview of VLSI, highlighting the evolution of integrated circuits and addressed the influence of AI models on training neural networks. The talk emphasized the growing need for energy efficiency, particularly in memory computing.  Dr. Indranil Hatai, Senior Application Engineer, Mathworks focussed on transforming concepts into reality spoke about VLSI tools in Matlab and how they can be used to speed up the VLSI Design process. Dr. Prasad, MTS Silicon Design Engineer, AMD spoke about VLSI and SoC Design Exploration for emerging applications. He delved into microarchitectural trade-offs, emphasizing their importance in SoC architecture and design across domains. He highlighted the need for optimizing these trade-offs during the design process, concluding with the vital role of energy efficiency in contemporary technology. This event was supported by Nextgen Integrated Circuits and Electronics (NICE) Domain in collaboration with the Student Tech Forum SILICON led by Dr. Sudeendra Kumar, Domain Head and Prof. Sunita M S, SILICON Mentor. Department of ECE, PES University, Ring Road Campus, organized VLSI Day, the one- day event in collaboration with VLSI Society of India on March 2, 2024.
