The 24-hour-long ‘Cyber Hackathon CIDECODE’ was held on March 2, 2024 at PES University, Bengaluru. This Hackathon was conducted jointly by PES University Center for Information Security Forensics and Cyber Resilience (www.isfcr.pes.edu) and Karnataka Police CID Center for Cyber Crime Investigation Training & Research (CCITR).
The hackathon was formally inaugurated by Dr. M A Saleem, IPS, Director General of Police, CID Karnataka, in the presence of Dr. Pranob Mohanty IPS, ADGP, Cyber & Narcotics, CID Karnataka and Dr. J Suryaprasad, Vice-Chancellor, PES University. The hackathon aims to derive solutions for the emerging problem statements in 3 categories, viz., Dark Web Monitoring and Detection, Cryptocurrency Traceability Tool and OSINT Automation.
The hackathon was announced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri. Siddaramaiah on 16th January 2024 during the Annual Senior Police officers conference at Police Headquarters, Bengaluru.
Inaugurating the program, Dr. M. A. Saleem, IPS said ‘I feel young minds can do innovative and thorough thinking to find solutions to complex problems faced by law enforcement agencies. This hackathon provides an excellent platform for young minds to test their potential and contribute to society’s wellness”.
Dr. J. Suryaprasad, Vice-Chancellor, PES University, in his address said “This is a great platform to bring together government, law enforcement agencies and academia to find solutions to the pressing and ever-growing problems of cybercrimes & digital forensics. Students get great exposure to apply their creative and innovative minds to help the police in delivering their duties”.
The Teams tackled challenges such as the Dark Web, OSINT, and Crypto currency tracing, with the following winning teams Dr. Pranob Mohanty IPS, in his special address, said, “The cutting-edge problem statements are carefully curated and are of great importance to law enforcement agencies. Adopting Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning would lead to the development of new products and solutions that were once unimaginable”.
The hackathon had wide participation from various colleges within and outside Karnataka. The event witnessed the registration of 341 teams consisting of over 1000 students, out of which 39 teams were short-listed for the final hackathon. The winner will be felicitated during the Annual Cybercrime

The Winners are:
Dark Web Category:
- Team Name Cyber squad from Jain University clinched the first prize in the Dark Web category, earning 70K,
- Team Name Terminal 1916 from JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bangalore secured the second prize of 30K.
OSINT Category:
- In the OSINT category, Team Name Hackquarium from BNM Institute of Technology seized the first prize, earning 70K,
- Team Name Scriptators from St. Joseph Engineering College claiming the second spot and securing 30K.
Crypto currency Tracing Tool category:
- Team Name Crew from G.M Institute of Technology secured the first place, earning 70K,
- Team Name Tech AI from N. K. Orchid College of Engineering, Solapur, grabbed the second position and secured 30K.
Furthermore, three distinguished teams were awarded internship opportunities:
Stealthops from PES University for addressing the Dark Web problem statement.
Edge Developers from PES University for their remarkable work in the OSINT category.
Cryptoz from PES University for their innovative solution in the Crypto currency tracing Tool category.
