On PES University foundation day, Prof. CNR Rao and Prof. MRD merit scholarship award ceremony was held at PES University premises today evening. Padma Vibhushana Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala was a chief guest for the function. Dr. Heggade felicitated two students, who excelled in GATE 2018 and JAM as well as a female student, who won Ekalavya award by Government of Karnataka. He also awarded Prof. CNR Rao and Prof. MRD scholarship awards to toppers in each department. Dr. Heggade, in his speech appreciated and thanked Dr. Doreswamy for his yeoman contribution to the field of education. PES has achieved a tremendous growth within a short span of time and the credit must go to Dr. Doreswamy. He also recalled that during the early years of post independence, the opportunities were less in India in higher education. But now there are lots of opportunities. A country can develop and succeed only though creating opportunities for its youngsters. He appreciated PES University in recognizing the meritorious student and encouraging them with monetary incentives. He inspired students to take a pledge in becoming the partners of growth, instead of beneficiaries of growth.
Dr. MR Doreswamy, in his presidential address, insisted students to possess values and ethically oriented, which is embedded in the mission statement of PES University. Students must demonstrate these values, irrespective of their field of working. He suggested students to be part of the development of the country and to achieve this, they must concentrate on research and innovation.
Prof. D. Jawahar, Pro-Chancellor of PES University, in his speech, talked about different incentives initiated by PES to encourage the students to excel in their academics. This semester, PES University is awarding 1500 students with merit scholarships, amounting to more than three crore Rupees. PES not only encourages current students with monetary incentives, but also facilitates with monetary support to secure foreign internships and international exposure. There is also a scheme for outstanding students studying higher education in the recognized international Universities.
Mr. H. Siddaiah, IAS, Former Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, congratulated PES University for its outstanding achievement in quality higher education. Mr. Siddaiah was felicitated by Dr. MR Doreswamy for his support and contribution to the estabnlishment of PES University.
During this occasion, book titled 1. ‘Shikshaka, Chintaka, Sadhaka’ and 2. ‘Dr. MR Doreswamy-Sadasyaru Karnataka Vidhana Parishathinalli Charchisida Nadavalikegalu’ have been released by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and Shri. H. Siddaiah respectively.
Dr. KNB Murthy, Vice Chancellor of PES University, gave the welcome address and Dr. KS Shridhar, Principal of PES Institute of Technology rendered the vote of thanks. Shri. Rajashekharan, former Central Cabinet Minister and a statesman; Shri Ravi Subrahmanya, MLA of Basavanagudi Constituency; Shri Surendra Kumar, Vice President of SDM Group of institutions were the other dignitaries attended this award ceremony.
