On November 11, 2025, the Department of Community Medicine, PESU Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESUIMSR) hosted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the theme “Promotion of Mental Health: A Preventive Approach.” The event brought together leading experts from NIMHANS and PESUIMSR to discuss innovative strategies for mental health promotion and preventive care.

Why Preventive Mental Health Matters
Mental health challenges are rising globally, and preventive strategies are essential to reduce the burden on individuals and healthcare systems. This CME aimed to equip healthcare professionals with practical tools and frameworks to address mental health proactively.

Event Highlights
Participation: Over 184 delegates, including faculty, postgraduates, interns, and healthcare professionals, attended the CME, reflecting strong interest in mental health advocacy.
Inauguration: The program began with opening remarks by Dr. Sudeepa D, HOD & Organising Chairperson, and dignitaries including Dr. Bharath (AMD), Dr. Manjunath MS (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Nagendra Prasad (Vice Principal), and Dr. Manjunath BD (KMC Observer).

Scientific Sessions

  • The CME featured seven dynamic sessions, each offering actionable insights:
  • Strengthening Doctors’ Competencies in Mental Health – Dr. Manjunatha (NIMHANS)
  • Assessment & Mitigation of Work Stress – Dr. Gautham M. Sukumar (NIMHANS)
  • Bengaluru Urban Mental Health Initiative (BUMHI) – Dr. Arvind B.A (NIMHANS)
  • Youth Mental Health Promotion: A Decadal Review – Dr. Arvind B.A (NIMHANS)
  • Suicide Prevention – From Awareness to Action – Dr. Keya Das (PESUIMSR)
  • Digital & Community-based Preventive Mental Health Strategies – Dr. Netra G (PESUIMSR)
  • AI in Mental Health: Digital Companions & Clinical Realities – Dr. Priyadharshini S (PESUIMSR)


These sessions explored stress management, youth mental health, suicide prevention, and the integration of AI and digital tools in mental health care.

Feedback & Impact
The CME received excellent feedback, with over 92% of participants rating it “Very Good” to “Excellent.” Delegates praised the academic content, practical relevance, and innovative perspectives, especially on technology and AI in mental health.

Conclusion
The CME successfully reinforced the importance of preventive mental health strategies and capacity building among healthcare professionals. With enthusiastic participation and positive feedback, PESUIMSR continues to lead the way in promoting mental well-being through education, innovation, and community engagement.
