National Science Day celebrates scientific awareness, innovation, and technological advancements and pays tributes to Sir C V Raman. The chief guest for the program, Prof. Yelamaggad, Senior Scientist, Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) explained how even the seemingly magical things around us like invisibility cloaks could be explained using scientific phenomena. He described how light is manipulated to curve around an object, effectively making it appear as if the object isn't there by directing the light path so that it bypasses the object and reaches the observer's eyes without being reflected off of it. Prof. Nagarjuna Sadineni in his opening remarks highlighted the rich tradition of science ingrained in Indian culture. Principal Dr. Subash Kulkarni and the Chairpersons of the Department of Science & Humanities, Dr. Karthiyayini O and Dr. Deepa Nair graced the event. A documentary on the lives of three of India’s venerable scientists Sir C V Raman, Satyendra Nath Bose and Meghnad Saha who shaped Indian science and made invaluable contributions towards understanding nature was screened. The image of earth from a distance of 6 billion kilometers taken from Voyager 1 Space Probe was shared. It depicted earth as a pale blue dot which had led to Dr. Carl Sagan to make some very profound and philosophical observations. The program concluded with giving away prizes to the winners of quiz competition. The National Science Day 2025 was celebrated on February 28 at EC campus.
