The occasion marked the initiation of the students into the medical profession, ethical practice, and professional conduct. Dr. H R Krishna Rao, Dean & Principal, and Professor & Head of the Department of Anatomy, delivered an insightful address to the students. He began by tracing the history of dissection, offering students a deep understanding of how anatomical studies have evolved over the centuries. Dr. Krishna Rao discussed key historical milestones such as the Murder Act, and the Anatomy Act, which revolutionized anatomical education in Britain by providing legal means for the dissection of unclaimed bodies from hospitals and workhouses. He 

also shed light on the history of dissection in India, emphasizing how anatomical studies were conducted in ancient times and how they evolved under colonial rule. Dr. Rao explained the significance of the Anatomy Act in India, providing a legal framework for the donation and use of bodies for medical education and research. A crucial aspect of Dr. Rao's speech was the explanation of why dissection is essential in medical education. He stressed that dissection is not merely a technical exercise but a vital learning tool that provides medical students with first-hand knowledge of the human body's structures, variations, and complexities. He encouraged students to approach the practice with reverence and a strong ethical commitment. Additionally, Dr. Rao underscored the importance of the Body Donation Program, highlighting how donated bodies play an indispensable role in advancing medical education and research. He encouraged students to recognize the generosity of body donors and their families, as their selfless contributions make it possible for the future. doctors to learn and grow. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Subramanya, Medical Superintendent, Head of the Departments, faculty and staff. All first-year MBBS students, clad in their white coats, participated enthusiastically, marking the beginning of their journey into the medical profession. The White Coat Ceremony and Cadaveric Oath for the 23rd Batch of first-year MBBS students at PES Medical College, Kuppam, was held on October 24, 2024.
