The expert talks on data communication and networking provided students with a comprehensive understanding of current trends and technologies in networking. The speakers, alumni of the department, shared their expertise and experiences, offering valuable insights into Quick UDP Internet Connections protocol, Software Defined Networking and Network Function Virtualization. Shashank Sharma, research intern at the ISFCR Research Center, explained that QUIC, a transport layer network protocol developed by Google improves performance and security compared to traditional protocols like TCP. He highlighted its key features, such as reduced latency, improved congestion control, and enhanced security. He also demonstrated the GNS3 (Graphical Network Simulator-3) tool, which is widely used for network simulation. Kirthi Prabhu, engineer at Siemens, explained the architecture of SDN, which separates the control plane from the data plane, allowing more flexible and efficient network management. Drawing from her project experience, she provided real-world examples of SDN implementation, highlighting its impact on modern network infrastructures. Sonia Singh, a Software Developer at IBM, described network virtualization as the process of combining hardware and software network resources into a single, software-based administrative entity. Her talk included case studies and practical applications, demonstrating the transformative potential of network virtualization in various industries.
