The field visit to Gleneagles BGS Hospital focused on understanding design principles and operational services. Students gained insights into how effective circulation design can minimize cross-contamination, streamline patient and staff movement, and improve overall hospital efficiency. They understood the importance of functional zoning, such as separating clean and dirty zones, and how these areas contribute to operational efficiency and patient safety. Students learned how critical services like HVAC, lighting, and medical gas systems are integrated into hospital design, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment. The visit allowed students to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications, deepening their understanding of architectural design in healthcare settings. Students visited the Bowring Hospital to assess the existing site conditions and evaluate spatial and functional requirements. The study helped develop a detailed understanding of the layout, environmental context, and infrastructure. Students gained insights about patient flow and zoning for operational efficiency. The observation of how hospital architecture operates in a real-world context bridged the gap between theoretical concepts and practical design. The Department of Architecture organized the case study visits for students of semester 5 as a part of course on design to Gleneagles BGS Hospital Kengeri, on August 12, 2024 and Bowring Hospital on August 19, 2024.
