American society for mechanical engineers (ASME) organized the Innovation Weekend the first ever in INDIA at PES UNIVERSITY.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. S. Somanath, chairman of ISRO. The inaugural event witnessed the presence of a host of dignitaries including BOEING, Autodesk, ASME, the office at America, and the academia.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman, ISRO said that India has plentiful engineering talent that the west can draw and reciprocally the leanings from the strong innovation ecosystem that the west has needs to be incorporated in the engineering education system to help India's complex engineering programs such as space to achieve greater self-reliance. Tech societies like ASME can play the role of carving dialogues on this platform to make it happen.

Prof. D. Jawahar, Pro-Chancellor of PES University in his speech shared that PES breeds Innovation in imparting engineering education. This is the Golden Jubilee year of PES University and having ASME celebrate it by organizing the Innovation Weekend embellishing the motto of Perseverance, Excellence, and Service of PES University.

Tom Costabile, CEO & Executive Director, ASME, Encouraged students to engage with ASME for scholarship opportunities as ASME is giving to raise $50 million to support education and workforce development initiatives.

Ahmed Elsherbini, Managing Director, Boeing India Emphasized the need for such events that encourages young engineers to showcase their talent and learn to be industry ready.

Krishnakumar K, Sr. Director, Autodesk India mentioned that 1 billion people need to be educated in next-generation skills such as automation, digitalization, machine learning / AI, robotics, on-demand economy, and remote working.

Over 700 students from academic Institutions across India will be participating in various competitions over the next two days.
