Quiet quitting is a global workplace trend, the reasons for which have changed over time. Dr. Shailashree Haridas, Dean of psychology department, in her keynote address spoke about the challenges related to quitting and quiet quitting in the educational sector. Mr. Ramesh Menon, experienced HR professional and ex-Navy officer elaborated on human resources challenges faced after the pandemic and volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) in the corporate world. According to him, the new challenge faced by HR was to match personal aspirations and company aspirations, culture and policies. Mrs. Kanchan Dwivedi, founder of INSPIRE, an organization that helps women take control of their own life, highlighted the trend of employees working just as much as they are paid which leads to quiet quitting in the workplace. She considered improved employee-manager relations, productive employees and short breaks in between tasks, good relationships with colleagues and mentoring as good practices that avoid burnout. The participants presented solutions about “How can a company get employees to be more involved or invested in the work they are doing? How to build team culture? How to design an engaging workplace environment?” They were mentored by Dr Jayashree, Dr. Aradhana and Prof Ajay. The winner was Team Chaitu and Friends, the runner up was Team NOVI and the second runner up was Team Soul Celestia. Special mentions included Team TBD and Team Phoenix. Participants were also given mini awards of ‘night owl’ and ‘best speaker’. Psychathon 2023, 24 hour hackathon on the theme of Quiet Quitting in which teams from all departments and campuses participated, was conducted by the department of Psychology on February 8-9, 2023.
