Prof. M.R. Doreswamy sincerely thanked Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Basavaraj Bommai and former Chief Minister Shri B.S. Yediyurappa for giving him a second opportunity to serve the government as Adviser, Education Reforms.
Addressing the media, Prof. MRD recalled the all-round appreciation for 18 recommendations to GoK, during his first tenure as Adviser during 2020-21. Prof. MRD said that many of his recommendations are now implemented by GoK as government programmes, particularly on the adoption of government schools by elected representatives (MLAs, MLCs, and MPs), by 30 universities/autonomous colleges, and reimaging government schools in which 8 Kannada Jnanapeeta awardees had studies, as model schools. More than 1200 government schools were adopted for development through his perseverance.
Prof. MRD has always led by example in government school adoption. Under his leadership, 40+ government schools were adopted in Bangalore city and Bangalore rural district. Recently, PES University has newly constructed and furnished 09 schools in rain ravaged districts of north Karnataka- Belgavi, Chikkodi, Bagalkot, and Bidar, at a cost of Rs. 6 Cr. Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Basavaraj Bommai has commended Prof. MRDs contributions to school education and said that Prof. ‘MRD would be GoK’s Ambassador for school education’.
Responding to a question from the media, Prof. MRD stated that he has accepted the assignment only to enlarge his activities throughout the state, so that students studying in rural areas could be helped to the extent possible, particularly in the post COVID-19 regime. His focus therefore would be to help the government to reimage government schools in rural areas and smooth implementation of NEP through the novel, cost-effective strategies.
Prof. MRD requested the support of the media to help the government in its bid to deliver quality educational services to students in rural areas.
