The eighth international Yoga Day was held at PES University campus. Dr. R. Nagarathna Raghuram, Dean of Academics, SVYASA University Bangalore was the chief guest and presided by the Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy.

Dr. Nagarathna addressed the students on the importance of Yoga and showed the techniques for reducing anger and fear during exam time by remembering the Three M's (mastering over the monkeying of the mind to overcome stress, anxiety, and anger). She insisted students practice Yoga in whichever country they work after graduation.

Sri Raghuram spoke on the qualities of Yoga in enriching one's internal capabilities like strength and determination. He also said Yoga has been practiced throughout the world without any discrimination of caste, religion, or ethnic background. In his address he said that Three Narendra's are responsible for this transformation in the world, namely, Narendra MahaYogi, Lord Shiva, who taught Yoga to Parvathi Narendranatha Datta/Swamy Vivekananda brought it to America about 150 years ago and finally Narendra Modi, the honourable Prime Minister of India, who introduced Yoga to the world through UNO and made people to think of Yoga as a means of connecting humanity.

Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy said that he is happy to see the International Yoga Day on the occasion of the 75th year of India's independence. Dr. Doreswamy was grateful to the honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to bring Yoga to the world dais through International Yoga Day. Dr. Doreswamy admired Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conviction to Indian culture, tradition, and ritualistic practices, which were not seen in any previous PrimeMinisters. As an advisor on educational reforms to the Government of Karnataka, he made 18 recommendations and one among them was the practice of Yoga from KG to PG classes in all the Universities. He also advised MCI and AICTE on having Yoga as a mandatory subject in higher educational institutes and Universities.He said that Yoga should be part of inter-collegiate/ University competitions similar to sports and other activities. He said that practicing Yoga enhances physical, mental, and spiritual growth, an essential requirement of human development. He announced that Yoga will be part of the mandatory practice of PES University curriculum.

Dr. K.S. Sridhar, Registrar of PES University welcomed the guests. Dr. Anupallavi, a Yoga instructor in the Department of Sports demonstrated and taught a few yoga asanas and pranayama to a large audience.Later, the chief guests inaugurated the Yoga studio, a state-of-the-art facility within the campus. Sri Vinay, Director of sports, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. J. Surya Prasad, Vice-Chancellor of PES University graced the occasion.
