This case is a facial cleft very much different from the usual cleft lip classified under Tessier facial cleft class 4. The incidence of this facial cleft is 0.22% of all facial clefts i.e. 1.43 to 4.85 per 100,000 births, which makes it one of the rare anomalies. The child had split lip completely on right side and partially, on the left side. There was also non development of the lid on the medical part of right lower eye lid. This three month old baby had difficulty in breast feeding and breathing.

Such a anomaly is challenging to operate as this poses difficulty for both the anaesthetist and operating surgeon.

With a vision of Founder Chairman, PES group of institutions, and Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy intended a need for a hi-tech hospital near Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh and started a medical college and research center. PES medical college & Hospital has all the facilities to operate such cases, like sophisticated and fully equipped operation theatre, pediatric ICU, specialized and highly skilled doctors and therefore the corrective surgery was successfully done, said by Dr.Channa Basava Patil, Medical Superintendent during the press meet.

This case was operated free of cost for patients under the Arogyashree scheme the same would have costed lakhs of rupees to get operated in higher centers like Bangalore and Chennai with the added problem of travelling and staying.

The parents of the baby expressed their gratitude to the Doctors at PES Hospital for the successfull Operation. Founder Chairman, PES group of institutions and Honourable Chancellor of PES University Dr. M.R. Doreswamy and Directors Dr. Rupa Suresh and Dr. Suresh Krishnamurthy congratulated Dr. Pramod and his medical team for this accomplishment.
