Breast cancer awareness programme was conducted in PES University HN Campus on 3rd December 2019 by Student Affairs, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is most common for women between the ages of 25 and 39 to focus on breast cancer awareness but girls as young as 15 can develop breast cancer. The Young Survival Coalition, a breast cancer support group for young women, says breast cancer accounts for 15% of all cancer diagnoses in younger women. Breast cancer is not only possible in such young age groups, but it is typically more aggressive and younger women diagnosed typically have a lower survival rate. To educate the girl students and women employees a breast cancer awareness program was organized by Student Affairs, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. 410 students & staff members participated in the event from various programmes (Pharmacy, PUC & Commerce) across the campus. Dr. Mallika Natraj, Breast Oncologist, Sparsh Hospital Yeshwanthpur Bengaluru, created awareness on Breast Cancer, its causes, preventive measures and also briefed the audience on prevalence, incidence, and dietary influence. She rolled out statistics to prove the alarming increase in breast cancer cases in recent years. Demonstrative videos to explain how to carry out Self Breast Examination (SBE) were shown and advised the girl students & women employees on the measures to be taken to protect themselves from the dreadful disease. The programme dismantled all myths and overcame taboos concerning Breast Cancer and gave students the entire spectrum of the topic on basis of factual accuracy. This promoted unity on part of the audience to stand together in the face of breast cancer, creating awareness amongst them and encouraging them to pass on this important and valuable information to their female peers and family members. The programme received overwhelming participation & responses from the participants.
