Student innovations on display at Prakalpa 2018

The PES University campus was brimming with ideas as students demonstrated the projects they had undertaken and completed successfully. The guiding spirit for 2018 edition of Prakalpa was “idea plus action equals change”. True the spirit, twenty two stalls were abuzz with demos as the innovators shared their best ideas, working prototypes and their understanding of the industry they will be serving. The event has grown into a vibrant platform that brings together students of various disciplines who can come up with great ideas and work towards making it into a useful solution. The all terrain vehicle, hybrid four-wheeler and go kart zooming on the tracks drew large crowds. More than 5000 students, 800 parents, 1000 students from other colleges participated in the event. Dr. M R Doreswamy, Chancellor, PES University visited the stalls, heard the enthusiastic presenters and interacted with students and staff. Speaking on the occasion he said that eco-tech innovation is the need of the hour and must touch three aspects of sustainable development namely technological, social and institutional innovation. He opined that universities and institutes of higher learning must focus on solving the societal problems be it garbage, traffic, electricity, water or drainage. He applauded some of the interesting projects taken up by the students of architecture and design department, biotechnology department and mechanical engineering department. He was impressed with the scale model of Lepakshi temple by students of architecture and design department, pebrine solution for silk worms developed by students of biotechnology and formula racing cars built by students of mechanical engineering. The panel of judges comprised of seven experts from industry and academia. Mr. Sudhir Ganesh Director – Engineering at Celestial Systems, Mr. Eswar Prasad N S CEO Nascent Ventures MHE Private Limited, Mr. Kailas Dulange MEP Technical Authority and Strategic Head in Atkins, Mr. Krishnan, TESCO, Dr. Usha Raghunath IIMB, Mr. Lokesh V Managing Director Innomantra and Mr. Vidhyadhar Wodeyar, practicing architect, evaluated the projects and department stalls. The first prize was won by Agriculture Robot and scaled model of Lepakshi temple. The second prize went to glass cleaning robot and classroom furniture design. The third prize was awarded to projects on Jathropa seeds and garment waste and gesture control robot based wheel chair. The stall put up by students of BBA program was adjudged the Best Department Stall. Other projects recognized by the jury were Bellandur lake project, NUO, energy from light source using sterling engine principle and profiling of distribution of Leachate contaminants in a vicinity of secured land fill. Prakalpa is an annual event of PES University about celebrating creativity that showcases the best projects completed by students and scholars of departments and research centers in PES University and other institutions of PES Group. The active participation and hard work of the student community strengthens PES University’s commitment to promoting education that is about learning to solve real world problems.
